Job Description:
DescriptionA Landscape Architect will be responsible for
performing multiple aspects of landscape architectural design
services on projects of moderate to large scope for commercial and
government facilities.
General responsibilities include but are not limited to the
following:
- Performing all aspects of site, landscape, and/or planning
design services including conceptual studies, programming,
schematic documents, design development, and construction documents
under the direct supervision of the Senior Landscape
Architect;
- Working on a multi-discipline design team;
- Meeting with clients to prepare and validate scope of
work;
- Preparation of marketing and presentation materials as
directed;
- Obtain guidance from Senior Landscape Architects and the
Department Head as necessary to resolve technical and coordination
issues and conflicting criteria;
- Direct and supervise the work of Landscape Designers and CAD
Technicians assigned to the project, particularly where unusual or
difficult problems are encountered;
- Performing landscape architectural services associated with the
bidding process, including preparing addenda and amendments and
opening and tabulating bids as directed;
- Performing landscape architectural services associated with the
construction phase, including field visits, answering RFIs,
reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings;
- Complying with the company's quality control practices and
procedures;
- Working with, responding to, and taking direction from Managing
Principals, Project Managers, Design Managers, Operations Directors
and senior management;
- Working with a multi-discipline team of architects, engineers,
interior designers and landscape architects;
- Participate in team meetings and coordinating efforts with
other team members;
- Directing, supervising and training junior staff as
directed;
- Mentoring and monitoring the professional development of junior
landscape architectural staff.
- Dedicated to developing his/her professional and leadership
skills within the firm.
Education, Technology, and Experience
- Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) from an
LAAB-accredited program -or-
- Bachelor of Arts in Landscape Architecture -or-
- Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture (BSLA)
-or-
- Masters of Landscape Architecture (MLA must be from an
LAAB-accredited program)
- Must be a fully licensed Landscape Architect in at least one US
state, preferably in the local jurisdiction.
- CLARB certified preferred.
- A Landscape Architect I should have 3-5 years of significant
design and practice experience in a leadership role with a
Landscape Design firm, multi-discipline Architectural & Engineering
firm, or government agency.
- Proficient in design, modeling and graphic software (AutoCAD,
Revit, Land F/X, Rhino, Enscape, Lumion, D5, Adobe Creative Cloud,
and/or similar applications)
- Proficient understanding of architectural drafting, detail and
documentation standards
- Proficient understanding of specifications and their
relationship to construction documents
- Proficient understanding of basic codes, sustainability
requirements and their implementation
- Additional coursework, degree, and/or experience in urban
planning, environmental engineering, horticulture, and/or civil
engineering desirable
- Additional certifications such as CDT, CCS, or CCCA are
encouraged to reflect personal growth in the profession and an
ever-increasing knowledge base to enhance the design and
documentation process.
- Active participation in related professional organizations is
desirable.
- Experience as a Landscape Architect in federal, state,
municipal, healthcare, commercial, higher education or similar
projects plus experience in Design/Build and CM at Risk project
delivery methods is desirable.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- A Landscape Architect should be able to effectively utilize
current company software programs for word processing, e-mail,
accounting, and information management.
- Possess excellent written and graphic communication skills,
being able to prepare effective and concise documents
- Possess technical precision and creative design skills
- Proficient in client presentation development, public speaking,
technical writing and business correspondence skills
- Have an enthusiastic, client-oriented, can-do attitude with a
desire to provide outstanding professional services
- Be dedicated to his or her professional development as well as
the success of colleagues and the firm as a whole
- Posses demonstrated ability to lead by example, teaching and
mentoring younger staff and working well with others in a team
environment
Physical Requirements
Work is sedentary and often performed in an office setting. Work
area is lighted, heated, and ventilated. This position may require
extended periods of standing, sitting, as well as some repetitive
movements, bending and lifting of minimal weight. Reasonable
